Job Security.

So I think we can all agree that we all hate our jobs from time to time.  I am no different than the rest.  People can be stupid, annoying, crazy, etc. and I have to be civil.  I have some great co-workers that keep me sane - you know who you are.  It's funny, because some of us are completely opposite, a few of those closet to me are a grandfather, a mom of 3, and a tattooed DJ.  Although we can seem very opposite, especially on the outside, we get along great.  Craig, the DJ and I secret vent to each other on Twitter.  Great way to let off steam!

So I got a new boss in July.  My old boss was incredible - laid back, but got the job done.  My new boss - just not so much.  She tries to be a hard ass, but then will try to come and distract at the worst possible time.  I'm sure I'll go into further details as I get more into they blogging, but just know she drives me crazy, and not in a good way.

So this week, my company decided to have a casual week.  They pick the most ridiculous reasons to have these casual weeks, but I can never complain.  I am more than happy to jump into a pair of jeans instead of slacks, skirt, or dress, especially when the weather drops 40 degrees.  Today my boss decides to put on a pair of leggings [supposedly against dress code], a short a$$ dress, and knee high-hooker boots.  I understand that it is casual week, but I don't think street-walker is what they had in mind when scheduling the casual week.

I've somehow gotten lucky enough to have another manager in my department make it her mission to aid in my development.  I have never had an official "mentor" at work although my company encourages it. Marshette has gone out of her way to give me opportunities that give me great visibility and hopefully set me up for a nice promotion in the future.  It involves a lot of responsibility, but something I'm incredibly blessed and excited to be a part of!  She challenges me and wants what is best for me.  She tested me today by asking me to be a part of a round table and take notes today.  Much to my surprise she introduced us and then said, "Emily, go ahead."  Somehow I can roll with the punches and it went fairly well, besides one jerk-off.  I think it is because of the passion I have for the project and interest in bettering my area and my development.  The jerk-off was trying to make a big deal about something he wasn't even involved in - too funny.

As crazy busy work has been, I often time remind myself that this is incredible job security for me.  I am lucky to have a job, that pays pretty well, and gives me opportunities to grow in an incredible company.

Hope everyone is half as blessed as I am!
